Regional definitions

There are four regions in the Scottish Calor Village of the Year® 2008 competition. Finalists form each region will compete to secure the regional titles and the four regional winners will then compete for the overall title of Scottish Calor Village of the Year® 2008.

The regions have been defined as follows:

Islands – islands in Highland, Argyll and Bute, North Ayrshire, plus the island authorise Orkney, Shetland, Western Isles.

Northern Scotland – Highland mainland, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Perth and Kinross, Aberdeen City, and Dundee City.

Southern Scotland – The Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, South Ayrshire, East Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, Midlothian and East Lothian.

Central Scotland – Argyll and Bute, Stirling, Clackmannanshire, Fife, West Dunbartonshire, North Lanarkshire, Glasgow City, East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, Falkirk, Stirling, West Lothian and City of Edinburgh.

The definitions are essentially by local authority area, apart from island communities from throughout the whole country, which will compete with one another in the Scottish Islands region.

Each regional winner will receive a £1,000 prize and the overall Scottish Calor Village of the Year® 2008 will receive an additional prize of £3,000.
