The village of Bromham, Wiltshire, welcomed TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall for a tour of the community on Tuesday 17th July 2007.
The Duchess was celebrating her 60th birthday on the day of the visit, and was presented with a cake to mark the occasion.
Their Royal Highnesses visited the village as part of an ongoing celebration of the benefits participating in Calor Village of the Year® can offer to rural communities, whether they go on to win prizes or not.
The tour of Bromham covered various areas of the village, including a visit to the 15th century chapel in the parish church - St Nicholas. A two year renovation project of the chapel’s unique polychrome and gilded, medieval oak ceiling has just been completed, thanks in part to funds raised by village organisation 'The Friends of Bromham and Sandy Lane Churches'.
The Royal party visited the village Post Office to meet local businessman Mark Wilkinson. Mark’s successful furniture business has its head offices in Bromham, and is supporting the village by putting all the company post through the local Post Office.
Suzanne Weir, Calor Village of the Year® manager, commented: “Once again TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall are showing their support for Calor Village of
the Year® with a visit to one of the communities involved in the competition. We are extremely grateful for this, particularly to The Duchess for doing so on her birthday, and hope that this ongoing support will continue to encourage villages throughout the country to get involved.”
