Entries are made by completing the 2008 entry form (download it here) . There are five categories which are based on five major aspects of village life. Villages may enter as many or as few of the categories as they wish but only those who enter all five categories will be considered for the overall title. Also, all entries will be asked to explain in 500 words or less ‘What makes your village a special place?'
After assessment and the short listing of the entries, a panel of judges will arrange to visit the communities which reach the final stage of each category to decide the prize winners.
The judges' decision will be final. The winning communities will be presented with their awards before the end of 2008 and a list of winners will be available by writing to the organisers after the presentation event (planned for October).
Please note:
Your community is not judged by what it HAS, but what it DOES.
All villages are required to complete PART TWO of the entry form
Your village will not be penalised if you are unable to answer one or more of the questions.
The judges will be looking for well-balanced, proactive and caring communities which, irrespective of size, have made the best of local opportunities to maintain and enhance the quality of life for everyone living there.
You may enter as many or as few of the categories as you wish. Equal consideration for category awards will be given to villages entering selected categories, as to those entering all five categories. However, for a village to be considered for the overall title, it will need to enter all five categories (having a go is enough - you don't have to be great in all of them to win a major prize).
