Henlow, Bedfordshire - Regional Winner 2006/2007

Henlow, Bedfordshire is an ambitious village with strong leadership and effective mechanisms for community involvement.

The village benefits from a very active and involved parish council with quality status and a number of younger councillors which ensures that all members of the community are well-integrated into village life. This is also a very caring community with a care scheme run by volunteers who provide transport and are trained to give advice on fitting fire protection and security devices. This is a very valuable resource for older residents who make use of it regularly.

The community supports local businesses, which in turn offer employment locally, support the village website and advertise in the village magazine. A local business also sponsors the village sports kit.

Good sports facilities and a play area for younger residents mean that there is always plenty for the young people of Henlow to get involved in. There are also plans to provide an area specifically for older children which will be a welcome addition to the village’s facilities.
