Geddington, Northamptonshire - Regional Winner 2006/2007
The village of Geddington, Northamptonshire is a vibrant and very enthusiastic community which plans for the future, whilst still embracing and nurturing its heritage.
Residents work together in Geddington, to the benefit of all. A great example of this is the volunteer fire brigade, which is so positive because villagers really enjoy being a part of it.
The facilities and care available for the older residents of the village are excellent. For example, prescriptions can be left at the village post office to be dispensed and then returned to residents’ homes in the same day. Geddington’s older residents are valued members of the community and in turn are supportive of all the village does.
In terms of environmental activities in the village, the involvement of children in environmental issues is outstanding. In addition, a footpath warden, reporting to the parish council, ensures that accessibility is maintained and visitors can obtain information about walks in the area from the post office. The village not only appreciates its natural wildlife and beautiful surroundings, but also do all they can to help others enjoy it and ensure its preservation for future generations
