Harpole

The village of Harpole is situated just two miles west of Northampton with a population of 1,800. It has ancient roots and human occupation of the locality can be traced back to the Bronze Age. Residents are fiercely protective of the village, which is gradually being encroached upon by the Northampton Borough boundary, creating a pride and a unity that is indicative of this vibrant and spirited community.

Harpole is an active and inclusive village where news and events are well communicated through a free monthly newsletter produced by the parish church, seven noticeboards and a village website (www.harpolevillage.com). Villagers have a good relationship with the pro-active parish council and are encouraged to attend monthly meetings, the minutes of which are displayed within the village. Newcomers are welcomed to Harpole and local organisations encourage new residents to get involved at all levels in order to incorporate new skills and ideas.

There is plenty to do for residents of all ages in Harpole, from the very youngest to the oldest. A number of organised clubs, groups and sports activities are available for both younger children and teenagers, all of which are well supported by residents and run by enthusiastic and dedicated local volunteers. Young people in the village are also encouraged to get involved in the decision making process. There is a wide range of services available for elderly residents in need of support. Financial aid comes from a number of charities and associations in the village and residents in need can receive monetary donations in complete confidence. Senior citizens are represented on all of the committees in the village as well as participating in a number of voluntary initiatives including reading in the villages primary school.

Overall Harpole is a caring, energetic community where people work together for the benefit of all residents. Everyone is encouraged to participate fully in village life and at all levels they are able to draw on the knowledge and experience of others.
