 After emerging victorious in our quest to find Calor Village of the Year® for England in 2006/07, the villagers of Allendale have been spending their prize money wisely.
Back in March some of the prize money went towards the creation of a new Toddlers' playground in the Allendale Recreation Ground. The Recreation Ground as a whole is undergoing significant redevelopment and is soon set to be reopened to the public.
The entire Allendale community has been included in the various development projects, with lots of hard work and effort being put in over the first half of 2008.
Communitywide events have also been scheduled to take place over the course of the year. There will be a ‘Celebration' theme for the 'Allendale Fair' (May 30th and 31st ), and a big community celebration is planned for June 1st with a ‘Square Party'. There will also be a 'Celebration Event' to welcome the villagers back to the Recreation Ground for the first weekend of July (4th , 5th and 6th ).
With volunteers from Allendale working together to make the various projects a success, it's clear to see why they were such worthy winners last year.
