Suffolk Villages Celebrate
The winners of the 2005 Calor Suffolk Village of the Year competition, which is organised by Suffolk Association of Local Councils (SALC) and sponsored by Calor, have been honoured at a presentation event held on Saturday 15th October in Holton St Mary Village Hall.
Paul Quantrill of Calor presented representatives of the successful villages with their prizes, which consisted of a combination of plaques, certificates and monetary awards. (For full details of the competition results and prize allocation please refer below.)
As the winner of Suffolk’s competition Holton St Mary is representing the county in the East England region of the prestigious Calor Village of the Year® for England competition, with a chance of gaining recognition at national level as well as a share of the £36,000 prize fund. Holton St Mary will initially be judged against villages from Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire and Norfolk.
The results of the national competition will be announced by guest of honour Alan Titchmarsh at an awards ceremony in London on Tuesday 6th December.

Parish Council of the Year Award: Tony Ward Gavel presented to Layham PC by Chairman of the SALC County Executive
Canon Kent Trophy to runner up: Mrs Cheryth Lowrie, Canon Kent’s daughter, presented the traditional Canon Kent Shield to runner up Tuddenham St Mary.
