North Lincolnshire's Top Communities Honoured

The winning communities in the 2005 North Lincolnshire Best Kept Village and Small Town and Village of the Year competitions have been honoured at a presentation event held on Monday 7th November at Burton upon Stather Village Hall.

The competitions are organised by Jenny Haynes on behalf of Northern Lincolnshire CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England) and sponsored by Calor, the UK’s leading supplier of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), with additional support from local sponsors Fenland Leisure, the Scunthorpe and Grimsby Telegraph, Brigg Garden Centre, Oaklands Nurseries and Stephen Smith’s Garden Centre. Also, competition support from Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) this year has led to the provision of £500 additional prize money specifically for the Building Community Life category of the Village of the Year competition.

Rob Benson of Calor presented representatives of the successful communities with their prizes, which included framed commemorative certificates. He was joined by Tim Godson representing Defra.

(For the full results of the competitions please refer below).

The village of Burton upon Stather is representing Northern Lincolnshire in the 2005 English Calor Village of the Year® competition with the opportunity of gaining recognition at national level as well as a share of the £36,000 prize fund. Burton upon Stather is competing in the North England region of the competition against villages from Cheshire, Cumbria, Durham, Humber & Wolds, Lancashire, Northumberland, Redcar & Cleveland, Tees Valley and Yorkshire. The full results of the Calor Village of the Year® for England competition will be revealed by guest of honour Alan Titchmarsh at an awards event being held in London on Tuesday 6th December.
