Competition Winners Honoured

The winning communities in the 2005 Lincolnshire Best Kept Village and Small Town and Village of the Year competitions have been honoured at a presentation event held on Thursday 3rd November at Leadenham Village Hall.

The competitions are organised by the Community Council of Lincolnshire on behalf of the Lincolnshire branch of the CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England). Sponsorship is provided by Calor - the UK’s leading supplier of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), with additional support from Lincolnshire’s District and County Councils, Pennells of Lincoln and Tucann Design and Print. Also, competition support from Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) this year has led to the provision of £500 additional prize money specifically for the Building Community Life category of the Village of the Year competition.

Jim Moyes of Calor presented representatives of the successful communities with their prizes, which included framed commemorative certificates. He was joined by Graham Norbury representing Defra.

(For the full results of the competitions please refer below).

The village of Grasby is representing Lincolnshire in this year’s prestigious national English Calor Village of the Year® competition with Nettleham competing in the ICT section. More than 40 villages across England are competing in the competition, which has a total prize fund of £36,000 and a top prize of £6,000. Grasby and Nettleham are competing in the Central England region of the competition against villages from Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, Staffordshire and Warwickshire. The full results of the Calor Village of the Year® for England competition will be revealed by guest of honour Alan Titchmarsh at an awards event being held in London on Tuesday 6th December.
