Call to Action for Proud Communities
Proud communities that want to celebrate their well-kept environments are being called upon to take part in the 2007 Northern Lincolnshire Best Kept Village and Small Towns competition, which is just getting underway.
Information and entry forms have gone out to parishes across north and north east Lincolnshire. The competition is organised by Sue Franks on behalf of Northern Lincolnshire CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England) and sponsored by Calor, the UK’s leading supplier of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and also this year for the first time by the Mayflower Wood community project (www.mayflowerwood.co.uk/friends.htm).There is also additional support from local sponsors Fenland Leisure, Oaklands Nurseries and Stephen Smith’s Garden Centre. For judging purposes communities are split into categories for Small Villages, Large Villages, Small Towns and Past Winners, and additional prizes are awarded for the Best Playground, Best Churchyard and Best Community Planting.
Sue Franks is looking forward to a good response from communities to the 2007 competition. She commented: “We can’t stress enough what a great community activity entering can be. Taking part in this competition is a wonderful way of celebrating and promoting your community. We judge the villages or towns on overall tidiness and cleanliness, how well the community facilities are kept and on the condition of both private gardens and any public planting. Throughout the competition’s history, the standard of entries has always been very high, and I would encourage as many of North Lincolnshire’s villages and small towns as possible to get involved in the competition so that they can gain recognition for their hard work.”
The deadline for entries to the Northern Lincolnshire Best Kept Village and Small Towns competition is May 25 and judging will take place during June and August.
