Of the original 34 entrants, a total of 20 communities have been put through to the second round of the 2006 North Lincolnshire Best Kept Village and Small Towns competition.

The competition is organised by Sue Franks on behalf of Northern Lincolnshire CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England) and sponsored by Calor, the UK’s leading supplier of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), with additional support from local sponsors Fenland Leisure, the Scunthorpe Telegraph, Oaklands Nurseries and Stephen Smith’s Garden Centre

The communities through to the second round are as follows:

Alkborough
Althorpe
Ashby cum Fenby
Barton upon Humber
Belton
Brigg
Broughton
Burton upon Stather
Elsham
Flixborough
Haxey
Hibaldstow
Humberston
Roxby
Scawby
Waltham
West Butterwick
Westwoodside
Winterton
Wroot

Further judging of these shortlisted communities will take place in the near future when winners will be decided in the following categories: Small Villages, Large Villages, Small Towns and Past Winners, Best Playground, Best Churchyard, Best Community Planting and Best Environmental Project.

Sue Franks commented: “Standards have been very high so far this year so our congratulations go to the 20 communities through to the second round of the competition.

They now face further judging visits when overall tidiness and cleanliness, how well community facilities are kept and the condition of both private gardens and any public planting will once again be assessed by our teams of judges. The winning villages will be revealed in September and a presentation event is due to take place on Monday 6th November.”
