Great Bardfield Shines for Business and Communications
Community triumphs in village competition

Great Bardfield, EssexVillagers in Great Bardfield, Essex are celebrating after it’s been revealed that their community has won through in the Business and Communications categories of the Calor Village of the Year for England 2009/10 regional heats.

Great Bardfield fought off competition from six other villages to win the categories, all of which had been nominated to represent their counties in this prestigious event. Its success follows a recent judging visit during which judges were shown just what Great Bardfield has to offer, with the community being showcased across a total of four categories: Community – a better place to live, Business – a better place to work, Sustainability – a better future, and Communications – being in contact.

As the regional category winner for Business and Communications, the village now has a few weeks to wait before finding out if it has triumphed at national level – as the five regional judging teams (covering North, South, East, West and Central England) come together to debate which of the regional Business and Communications category winners deserve the £500 national awards.

The national category award for Business is being contested by Halstock, Dorset; Crosthwaite, Cumbria; Coombe Bissett, Wiltshire; and Bonsall, Derbyshire along with Great Bardfield.

In the national Communications category, the village is up against Rainow, Cheshire; Goring on Thames, Oxfordshire; Porlock, Somerset; and Bonsall, Derbyshire

Calor Village of the Year manager Holly Sims comments: “Congratulations to Great Bardfield – our regional Business and Communications winner for East England. I’m sure the community will be on tenterhooks over the next few weeks before the national category winners are revealed. We very much look forward to hearing the outcome and wish them the best of luck.”

Details of the national winners will be revealed on 24 November.
