Two Awards For Tarrington in Calor Contest

TarringtonThe village of Tarrington is a strong community, ably led by a very active parish council and there is something on offer for everyone – from the very youngest to the oldest resident.

A bi-monthly village newsletter – the Tarrington Tatler, is delivered free of charge to every household and is used by most organisations as the primary means of communication, keeping all of the community informed of events and activities. Newcomers to the village are personally welcomed by a parish councilor and provided with a welcome pack which consists of a parish map, the latest newsletter and an information sheet of activities and contacts. Various networks of volunteers also play an important role in supporting the community. For example, the Neighbourhood Watch team works closely with the local police constable and community support officers.

In particular, Tarrington is very successful at caring and providing for its young people. There are a number of well established and popular groups and activities on offer for youngsters, from a wildlife club and brownies, to cricket and football. During the summer months the range of activities on offer increases even further, culminating with a village barbecue the young villagers are involved in organising. In general, Tarrington’s young people are well integrated into decision making process in the village and are encouraged to take responsibility for areas of community life, for example, over recent years a young person has regularly been co-opted to the community Hall’s management committee.

Information Communication Technology (ICT) is becoming an increasingly important resource in the village, for both individual residents and the community in general. The village website (www.tarrington.org.uk) was re-launched back in May 2006 and villagers contribute to its content on a regular basis. News on village events, information on clubs and a monthly police newsletter are also featured. Local businesses are also allowed to advertise on the site free of charge.

Tarrington is situated between Ledbury and Hereford and has a population of about 280.
