Misterton Wins Business Award

Misterton is a developing community of 2,000 people with a pro-active Parish Council that looks to the future with a positive and proud attitude. Their Calor Village of the Year® submission was given to all the households to celebrate and appreciate the community they live in.

Misterton is a very self-sufficient village, providing a wealth of activities and services for all. The vision of the Misterton Centre will improve the life of those living in the village. At present 150 people are employed and the range of business is impressive. Links between business and the community is particularly strong, enhancing all aspects of village life. The support that Mobileshop.com, an internet retailer of phones, gives to provide facilities is an obvious example of this co-operation. Miserton is also famed with farmer Stan White who is the largest Beetroot producer in Europe!

The presence of so many sole traders is a further indication of the developing business life in Misterton.

The recent formation of the Youth Forum will give the next generation a positive opportunity to shape their future. The recreation and playing facilities are attractive and well maintained offering the young and energetic an opportunity to be physical. The less active can still get out and about to the shops and health centres with the help of a community car scheme.

Misterton’s environment is clean, tidy and sympathetic to the local architecture. The recent tree preservation order on the canal-side weeping willows will continue to enhance the local environment. Recycling, conservation and environmental issues are at the heart of decision making.

Communication via information technology is fully utilised with an attractive and easily accessible website. Provision of Telly-Talk systems at the Misterton Centre will improve the quality of life for residents and allow them to contact the main service providers and provide welcome help. Good access to courses in the area encourages young and old to learn and the village shows a good awareness for the potential role information communication technology will play in the future of the village community.
