Entry Conditions and Guidelines
The judges are looking for: “Well balanced, pro-active, caring village communities which, irrespective of size, have made the best of local opportunities to maintain and enhance the quality of life for all inhabitants.”
The Scottish Calor Village of the Year® competition is open to all rural communities throughout Scotland with a population of 5,000 or under. Entry is open to Community Councils, Community Associations and other local representative bodies or community groups if they meet any of the following criteria:
- A ‘not for profit’ local organisation or trust set up to improve the social, economic or environmental health of the local community.
- A strong emphasis on the involvement of local individuals or groups active within the community.
- Partnerships, networks or forums acting within a localised community.
If you are unsure about your group’s eligibility or require more information, please contact the Scottish Calor Village of the Year® competition, by calling The PR Partnership on 01224 248007, or e-mailing info@calorvillageoftheyear.org.
The closing date for entries is Saturday 31st May 2008. Entries received after this date may not be considered.
The competition assesses communities on four aspects of rural village life: People, Business, Environment and Communications. You are also asked to tell us in less than 500 words, ‘What makes your community a special place?’
Entry Assessment
Entries are made by completing an online questionnaire, which includes questions addressing the four categories, and the online submission written in less than 500 words: 'What makes your community a special place?'
After registering, entrants can complete the form at their own pace and review / amend answers as they wish. They can save their partially completed entry forms at any time and submit only when they are ready – reminders of the closing date will be sent automatically to registered communities which have not completed and submitted their entries.
> Scottish Calor Village of the Year® awards - category guidelines
Completed entries must include contact details of a recognised official of the community body or organisation submitting the entry. Entries must be submitted by Saturday May 31, 2008. Any entries received after this date will be considered for acceptance at the discretion of the organisers.
After assessment and short listing of the entries, the short listed communities will be invited to present their entries to a panel of judges who will decide the regional winners. The regional winners will then be visited to determine the overall Scottish Calor Village of the Year® 2008. The judges' decision will be final. The winning communities will be presented with their awards before the end of 2008 and a list of winners will be available by writing to the organisers after the presentation event.
By entering this competition the organisations that submit entries agree to allow the organisers the rights to full publicity. Prizes should be used to fund community projects.
Entry Assistance
For those communities who would like guidance with the composition of their entry documents we can provide assistance.
