Deadline extension for community awards
Community groups wishing to enter the Calor Scottish Community of the Year Awards have been granted a two-week extension to the entry deadline.
The decision to extend the deadline to 15 July 2005 was taken after a number of communities expressed difficulty in registering and applying online at www.communityoftheyear.org.uk.
Commenting on the decision, Hamish Husband, Calor Scottish Community of the Year Awards manager, said,
"Whilst a number of communities have successfully submitted their entry via the website, we felt it was necessary to extend the deadline after receiving several calls from groups experiencing difficulty.
"We are currently working to pin-point the problem, and can only apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused."
Communities who are interested in applying to the awards or are experiencing problems online should contact the awards co-ordinator, Ashley Ross on 01224 588900 for an application pack.
Open to any properly constituted community group in Scotland, and carrying a total prize fund of over £5000, the Calor Scottish Community of the Year Awards aim to recognise and reward the efforts made by communities in improving their local area.
The awards consist of five separate categories; environment, business, older people, younger people and community life, with a separate award for Community Enhancement through the Internet.
Each category winner receives £500 towards their community's activities with highly commended communities receiving £250. In addition, the overall Calor Scottish Community of the Year is awarded £1500.
The awards are supported by Calor Scotland in association with Communities Scotland and are backed by The Association of Scottish Community Councils (ASCC), The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), Scottish Business in the Community (SBC) and The Robert Gordon University (RGU).
